John Fairhurst’s musical path began when he was just a small child in Wigan, when Indian Sarod master, K Sridhar, came to stay with his family. In awe of Sridhar’s dedication to his art, John soon followed him into music, developing an early love for Miles Davis, Nick Drake, and Jimi Hendrix.
After a serious knee injury laid him up for twelve months, John’s masterful finger-picking only improved, and once he was fit again, his commitment to the guitar was sealed when he headed off to play his way around the world.
Having played the blues in a Bangkok bar, joined a band in Melbourne, and eaten roadkill in New Zealand, John returned to the UK ready to turn his experiences into an inspiring debut album. Joys of Spring is a truly great achievement; with elements of John Fahey and Robbie Basho, it's an album of outstanding creativity, lush eastern melodies, and at its heart, John's unbridled zest for life.
"Entirely instrumental, this beautifully played album takes you on a journey around the world to the point where your senses can make you believe you are there. John is a master of a huge number instruments, but it’s the brilliant playing of so many types of guitar that really grabs you.
Even if instrumental music isn’t your thing you should own this album. John Fairhurst deserves to go far and if people are willing to give this type of music a go then there is no denying that they’ll be drawn in by it. Buy it now!"
